I spent years being a people pleaser. Always focusing on making others happy inspite of my unhappiness. Not just people, but family also. If I found that my loved ones day was going bad, then my whole week would go bad. My happiness depended on others happiness. I was an enabler and I had become what they call a dry drunk once my husband became free from his addiction. I was still addicted to people pleasing. Come to one of our meetings. Let's talk about it.

CODEPENDENT
excessive emotional or psychological reliance on a partner, typically one who requires support on account of an illness or addiction.
ENABLING
Enabling is the act of shielding someone from the natural consequences of their dysfunctional behavior or addiction, often stemming from fear, guilt, or a desire to "help". It keeps the individual dependent, preventing them from facing the need for change while causing the enabler emotional distress, exhaustion, and codependency. Stopping it requires establishing firm boundaries and allowing the person to face consequences.
